It is once again that time for us to make our pilgrimage to Riley’s (just south of San Marcos in Hunter, TX) to celebrate and honor Gary Stewart through an afternoon of horseshoes, good country music, and damn good barbecue… just how Gary would like it.

This will be the 11th anniversary of the event. Once again Paula’s father and mother are providing the mouth watering barbecue for this year’s Que-N-Shoes. The grand prize for the horseshow tournament will be another most anticipated t-shirt design from the revered David Shields.

Shoes start flying at noon and runs until around 5:00pm.

Membership

Don’t forget to renew your membership if you haven’t done so already. We rely on your financial support to fund things like the annual barbecue, and the scholarships we award at the Exit Review and our new Pick N’ Pull Review. Without you, none of this would be possible. You can click on the “Join” button in the right sidebar to pay your dues online.

We’ve just released information about the upcoming Pick N’ Pull Review, and our annual Gary Stewart Memorial Horseshoe Tournament out at Riley’s Tavern in Hunter, TX. Both events will be held on Saturday, March 28th. Full details are on each event’s page.

Congratulations to Clint Breslin, the winner of the 502 Outstanding Portfolio Award. A certificate and $502 were presented to him at the Fall 2008 Exit Review by our president, J.J. Wampler, and the alumni speaker, Aline Forastieri. There were many great portfolios entered into the competition; if you didn’t get a chance to vote, you can still see all of the fantastic entries on the 502 Outstanding Portfolio Award page. It’s that time of year again… the Communication Design Exit Review. You remember your own Review, right? Staying up all night frantically cutting out display board with a dull x-acto blade, your hands covered in a thin film of dried (but still tacky) Super-77. No beer left in the fridge and the clock counting down the last minutes before show time. So, perhaps most of us were more prepared than that, but I’m sure you still relate to the anxiety and excitement of our current crop of fresh young designers and art directors.

Join us this Friday, December 12th, at 6:00pm in the ballroom of the LBJ Student Center. Drinks and food will be provided.
