About 502

Mission

502 is an alumni organization dedicated to the support and advancement of the Communication Design Program at Texas State University, San Marcos. 502 specifically acts to initiate opportunities for alumni and students currently enrolled in the program.

Goals

  1. Increase awareness of the program among alumni and the professional community.
  2. Improve communication between current and former students.
  3. Increase opportunities for current and former students within the professional community.
  4. Create and support scholarship opportunities for the program’s current and incoming students.
  5. Increase support for, and new involvement with, initiatives within the program.

Organization Membership

General membership is open to anyone interested in supporting the goals of the organization.

Governing Board & Officers

Board membership is open to alumni members interested in donating their time to actively organize and coordinate 502 programs as well as advising the program on new academic initiatives. Membership is limited to 13 voting positions plus one ex officio member selected from the Communication Design faculty and one non-voting member who will be a current Communication Design major.

Positions are selected from the pool of alumni members by nominations and/or appointment by the Communication Design faculty member. Officer terms will be for one year, save for the President who will serve for two years. Elections will be conducted by secret ballot from among the group of qualified nominees. Consecutive rounds of secret ballot will be conducted until all ties for individual positions are resolved.

The appointed Board will have three meetings per year; one near the end of each long semester and another mid-summer.

Board Officers

President
Responsible for organizing meetings, agendas, initiatives and communication.

Vice President
Responsible for communicating with individual committee representatives.

Treasurer
Responsible for managing funds and transactions on behalf of the organization.

Secretary
Responsible for the recording of minutes at organization meetings and correspondence with the body of Communication Design alumni at large.

Historian
Responsible for maintaining records of the organization’s actions within and impact upon both the professional design community and Communication Design program.

Specific Officer Responsibilities

Annual Report
At the end of each year, the Historian will present an Annual Report to the President. Said report shall chronicle the Board’s actions and initiatives for the preceding year in the form of images and written accounts. The format and formal presentation is left to the discretion of the Historian.

Alumni Contact List
The Lord of the List, in conjunction with the Secretary, will maintain a list of all known Communication Design alumni in the design community nationwide. New additions will be presented to the Lord of the List, who will present a new, updated list to the Secretary for dissemination to the organization at large.

502 Website and Message Board
The Secretary will be responsible for maintaining a website and online message board for the organization.

Policies for the Proposal, Approval and Setting of Initiatives
All initiatives must first be presented to a proper committe within the organization. Said committe will then conduct an internal vote on the proposal. All proposals that have passed through committee will be voted on by the Board by simple majority vote at the next meeting of the Board. Other proposals that have not passed through a committe can be heard at any open meeting at the Boards discretion. Absentee votes will be permitted.
